Voicemail FAQ

How do I get started using the new Voicemail service?
Am I required to complete the tutorial, to record a spoken name and a personal greeting, and to establish a valid passcode?

Yes, the tutorial must be completed the first time you access the new Voicemail system. To complete the tutorial, you must initially access the system using the default passcode 654123, and you will be required to change the default passcode to a new valid passcode. A valid passcode consists of 5 – 10 numbers and cannot include or be your 5-digit extension number.

We recommend that you record a spoken name and a personal greeting, but you may bypass these recording steps in the tutorial by pressing the * key. If you do not record a spoken name, the default spoken name may be inaccurate, inappropriate, or sound unprofessional. If you do not record a greeting, the system will play the standard greeting.

How do I access my messages on the old InfoMail system?

You may temporarily access the old InfoMail system by calling extension 4-0009, or (949) 824-0009 from off campus, until February 26, 2010. Use your old password to access the old InfoMail system.

After February 26, 2010, you will not be able to access old messages.

Why doesn't my message waiting light turn off when I don’t have any new messages?
First, make sure you do not have any new messages on the old InfoMail system or the new Voicemail system. If the light still stays on, call the OIT Help Desk at extension 4-2222 or send email to oit@uci.edu.
Where can I find out more about the differences between the old InfoMail and the new Voicemail systems?
For detailed information about the differences between the two systems, view the Differences document at: http://www.oit.uci.edu/telephone/voicemail/differences.php
Why does the Voicemail system tell callers that my mailbox is full when I have no new messages and only a few saved messages?

When you delete a message by pressing 3, the message remains in your mailbox stored in the archive. Messages in the archive use storage space in your mailbox. If you receive many messages throughout the day, your box can quickly become full. Messages will automatically be purged after 3 days. In the meantime, you can purge the deleted messages from your mailbox as follows.

  1. Login to Voicemail.
  2. Press 0 for more options.
  3. Press 6 for Applications.
  4. Press 3 to Review Deleted Messages.
  5. Press 1 to Listen to Message.
  6. Press 2 to Delete Message.
Note: You do not have to listen to each message. Each time the system says "next message", you can press 2 to delete that message.
