Several cellular providers, including AT&T, Nextel, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless, offer discounts to UCI faculty and staff. This information is provided as a convenience, but we do not endorse any of the providers. Review the information and contact the vendors directly.
Cell Phones as a Taxable Benefit
Cell phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), or similar devices provided to a UCI employee will be treated as a taxable fringe benefit subject to withholding for payroll taxes. Employees with such equipment receive a monthly cash allowance reimbursing them for the tax on this fringe benefit.

Cellular Safety
There has been concern about the safety of cell phone use for as long as these phones have been available. The Cell Phone Safety site summarizes what is and isn’t known at the present time concerning whether these phones can pose a radiation health hazard and what can be done to minimize any potential risks.
