Stamp

What is stamp?

stamp is used to generate a description of what a machine looks like, at a given point in time.

check-stamp is used to compare two stamps, outputing a list of differences.

What does DCS use stamp for?

  • Generate a list of changes made to a machine's system directories, since the time the machine was installed. This takes a lot of the guess-work out of performing upgrades.
  • Execute stamp, add a software package, then check-stamp. This allows us to see the changes a vendor's installation script is making to a machine.
