- Do a backup of the system disk if necessary.
- Log into system in multi-user mode and open a shell & groot.
- Get the selection file :
- Change Directory to:
- Change Directory to:
cd /mnt/uci-dist_6.5.27
- Start the inst program
nomad# inst
- Open up the 6.5.20 stream and Check for and resolve conflicts.
inst>from .
THAT IS "from dot"
inst> admin
Admin> load /tmp/selection
Admin>..
inst> conf
- If you run into conflicts, carefully resolve them by typing conf and the number of the conflict solution.(i.e.. 1a,2b,3c...)
The expected conflicts should only be requesting patch removal. patch removal is ok.
nomad# conf 1b 2b 3b 4b 5b 6b 7b 8b 9b 10b 11b 12b 13b 14b 15b 16b 17b
- After all conflicts are resolved, type "GO" to begin overlay
installation.
inst> go
- When the overlay installation is complete you need to quit inst.
inst> quit
- Now you are ready to execute the autoconfig -v command and watch for errors. If you get errors, make plans for a visit and an upgrade because there is no going back at this point.
nomad# /etc/autoconfig -v May not be needed
- Now do a "versions changed." You should only see the modified items that are below. If this fails, we don't want to reboot. We want to see if we can address the problem.
nomad-root) versions changed
Configuration Files
m = modified since initial installation
? = modification unknown
blank = file is as originally installed
m etc/config/snetd.options
etc/config/snetd.options.O
m etc/syslog.conf
etc/syslog.conf.N
- And to finalize the Irix 6.5.27 overlay you must "mv" the
/usr/include/Vk directory to /usr/include/Vk.before6.5.27m
This will rid the boot of the annoying "Updated Configuration" message.
nomad-root)mv /usr/include/Vk /usr/include/Vk.before6.5.27m
Make sure you have run run-after recently and corrected any descrepencies before proceeding. Otherwise, running run-after at the end might cause more problems than necessary.
nomad#/dcslib/allsys/etc/run-after
- Now you are ready to apply 6.5.27 patches from autoinst.
nomad# /dcs/packages/patch/scripts/irix-6.5.27patch
- If this host is a ypmaster be sure the correct passwd file has been pushed.
nomad% ypcat passwd
If the output is identical to the /etc/passwd file then you have a problem :-D
- To fix this, simply touch and push the /NIS maps
- Then reboot the system
nomad-root)/etc/reboot
Now you might want to log back into the system just to make sure every
thing came up ok.
may not apply to this overlay
