Image Sources and Tools

Sources

NACS has both black & white and color scanners available for use (on an appointment basis) at no cost. We also have a color digital still camera available for loan to UCI affiliates. These devices produce files suitable for inclusion in web documents. Contact NACS' Response Center at x6116 for more information.

Tools

On UNIX workstations, there are several tools available to manipulate images. One of the most popular is "xv", which is available in NACS' DCSLIB software library for all supported platforms. It can convert many different image formats into GIF or JPEG files. For creating image files (such as small graphic buttons you've probably seen in documents), the UNIX tool "xpaint" is useful. It too is available in DCSLIB.

For the Macs and PCs, there are public-domain and shareware packages available, as well as commercial packages such as Adobe Photoshop, that can convert image files into formats that can be included in web documents.
