Radio Replacement Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: Why do we need to order a different model radio?
- A: Motorola Communications is discontinuing production of MTS2000 line of
radios. They are replacing it with the XTS2500 series.
- Q: When should you start to purchase the XTS2500 instead of the MTS2000?
- A: You should start purchasing the XTS2500 now. Procurement Services
has the necessary information to begin purchasing the XTS2500 model portable
radios.
- Q: Do we need to replace all of our MTS2000 radios with the XTS2500
now?
- A: No. The MTS2000 will continue to work on our radio system along
with the new XTS2500.
- Q: Should we order the XTS2500 Model 1?
- A: We do not recommend that departments purchase Model 1 radios. For
ease of operation, we recommend that departments purchase the Model 1.5
as the basic feature radio and Model 3 for advanced feature capability (Interconnect,
Private Call, and Paging). Motorola did not include a display on the
XTS2500 Model 1 radio. It’s difficult to know which channel the
radio is on based on the channel selector knob. In addition, with 48
available modes, it is difficult to include each department’s common
channel because of limited space.
- Q: Can I use the same batteries for both the XTS2500 and MTS2000?
- A: No, the XTS2500 uses a different battery than the MTS2000.
Existing single and 6 bay battery chargers will charge both the MTS2000
and XTS2500 Nickel-Cadmium (Ni-Cad) type batteries.
WARNING!
Do not charge Nickel Metal Hydride
(Ni-MH), Lithium Ion (Li-Ion), or Motorola’s “impres” type
batteries in legacy chargers. NTN1177
(6 bay unit) and NTN7209 (single unit) chargers will not charge these battery
types properly leading to possible damage or very poor battery performance.
- Q: Are the MTS2000 speaker microphones and antennas compatible with
the XTS2500?
- A: Speaker microphones, antennas, and other audio accessories can be used
on either model.
