800MHz MTS2000 Radio Replacement Information
Summary: Motorola will soon cease production of the MTS2000 radio that UCI departments have been using to date. OIT recommends departments select a radio from the new Motorola XTS2500 series when additional radios are needed.
Motorola will soon cease production of the MTS2000 radio that UCI departments have been using to date. OIT recommends departments select a radio from the new Motorola XTS2500 series when additional radios are needed.
The last production run of MTS2000 portables will take place the 4 th quarter of 2004. Support (repair and parts) will continue for 5 years after they cease production of this radio series.
Motorola offers the XTS2500 in three models similar to the MTS2000. OIT recommends purchasing the XTS2500 Model 2 as the standard issued radio and the Model 3 for advanced features. The Model 1 should be avoided because it has no channel display. Please see the chart below for feature and pricing comparisons. Note that the prices for the XTS2500 radios are less than the MTS2000 due to a fixed pricing contract that UC Irvine is eligible for. Pricing as of October 2004 is listed below.
