Network Connections

Summary: As part of UCInet, OIT installs, changes and disconnects network or data lines on the UCI campus. To request new service you will need to fill out a OIT Service Request Form.

Requesting Data Communications Installation

Requesting New Installations

Requests for new data communications installations must be submitted on a OIT Services Request Form. Requests for multiple lines can be added to a single form if all lines are associated with the same contact person, account/fund number, etc. Make a note in the comments section.

Requests must include the following information:

Check the box which describes the type of service:

Attach to the request form a room layout with new location of data line designated by a small triangle. All devices, outlets, and cabling should be available at all times. Send request form to OIT, 5201 California Ave. #150, Zot Code 5475, or by fax. The fax number is (949) 824-2270.

Requests which are incomplete will be returned to the originator; therefore, if you have questions about your service request, please call (949) 824-2222.

Changing of Orders

Once your order has been processed by OIT, changes or alterations can only be made to the order due to extenuating circumstances. If changes are necessary, the UCI OIT Services Request Form will have to be modified, reissued, and completed at a later date.

Please do not ask the data line installers to make changes to the order as they can do only what the order specifies.

Lead Time for Installation

To ensure timely installation of data lines, please allow the proper amount of lead time.

Location of Equipment

All data communications outlets and cable facilities must be accessible at all times for installation and repair. Bookcases, ceiling tile, file cabinets, and all other furniture blocking access to facilities must be moved by the requesting department.

Change in Data Line Installation

Requesting Change in Data Line Installations

Requests for changes in existing data line installations must be submitted on a OIT Services Request Form. Requests for multiple lines can be added to a single form if all lines are associated with the same contact person, account/fund number, etc. Make a note in the comments section.

Billing

Billing for Data Lines is included on the monthly Telephone Billing Statement. Lines accrue a monthly charge and appear as individual entries. Charges are summarized on a separate page labeled "Network Charges". These charges are broken down into several categories (i.e., Ethernet Connection, Serial Connections, Equipment, Installation Charges, Debit and Credit Adjustments).

Departments have thirty days to request an adjustment to their bill. After that time, no adjustments will be made. Call extension 4-4311 for answers to billing questions.
