Setup should be similar for older versions of OS
X.
Register your
MAC
address (Media Access Control) if you have
not done so already.
You will need your UCInetID
and password to authenticate.
Make sure you are in one of the covered wireless
locations on campus. You
will need to be in range to complete the set up.
From the Apple menu, select System Preferences.
Click the Network icon under Internet & Network.
Select the AirPort connection and click the Assist me... button.
(Note: The circle will be red if AirPort is turned off and green if it is turned
on.)
Click the Assistant... button in the window that appears.
You will be asked to name your connection. In the Location Name field,
type UCInet Mobile Access and click Continue.
Select "I use AirPort
to connect to the Internet wirelessly." and
click Continue. If your AirPort card is turned off, you will receive a message asking you
to turn it on. Click OK to turn your airport card on.
You will be asked to join an available wireless
network. Select UCInet
Mobile Access and click Continue. Note,
you will need to be in range of one of the UCInet
Mobile Access wireless zones.
In the Ready to Connect window, click Continue.
The UCInet Mobile Access network is already set up.
Your computer will save the configuration and
you will be connected to UCI's wireless network. Click Done to
finish and exit the Setup Assistant.
From now on, your computer should see the UCInet Mobile Access network whenever
you are in range of one of the locations.
Please be aware that wireless connections
are less secure. You should use the UCI
VPN for any private wireless communications on campus. As a security
precaution, telnet access has been disabled on the UCInet Mobile Access
network. You may use an SSH
client instead or use SSH from the Terminal program.
Peer to Peer (P2P) connections are not allowed
on the Mobile Access network.
If you have any questions or problems with your connection, contact the
OIT Help Desk at (949) 824-2222.
