Summary: Student web developers assist Student Life & Leadership IT (SLL-IT) staff with the development of
PHP/MySQL web applications such as intake forms, search engines, and online editors. Under close
supervision, primary duties include writing new code, adapting existing code to new standards (re-writes),
and basic web page design and maintenance. Development and production servers are Mac OS X based and
use Apache, MySQL, and PHP (AMP).
Secondary duties include CSS styling, web design and graphic arts, server maintenance, account processing,
content management system support, documentation, Mac/Windows desktop support, and other duties as
assigned and applicable to skillset.
Work is performed primarily in SLL-IT staff offices. Developers are expected to follow existing department
development standards and adapt to the coding style of the lead developers. Student work schedule can be
adjusted for classes but regular weekly hours are required. Work-study eligibility preferred but not
required. Position open until filled.
Student position is for the school year and Summer hours are desired.
Applicants must be Registered as Full-time
or Part-time Undergraduate UCI students during the school year.
REQUIREMENTS:
Proficiency with PHP and HTML
Fundamental understanding of web forms and POST/GET variables
Fundamental SQL query authoring skills
Good communication skills with both technical and non-technical collaborators
DESIRED:
Specific knowledge of applications used in development environment (including, but not limited to: Mac OS
X, TextWrangler/BBEdit, phpMyAdmin, Dreamweaver, Eclipse)
Experience with web design using CSS
Experience with JavaScript (jQuery, AJAX, etc.)
Working knowledge of command lines and shells (bash, tcsh, dos, etc.)
Familiarity with Student Life & Leadership programs on campus
EXPERIENCE:
Web development experience is required; knowledge gained from coursework is acceptable.
Employment is contingent upon a successful background check.
