Summary: Evaluate various cluster technology such as evaluating storage architectures and provisioning techniques, help researchers with complex data processing, hardware support (replacing components, networking computers, debugging scripts), some physical labor (such as racking compute nodes).
Applicants must be registered as full-time or half-time undergraduate UCI students.
Have familiarity with at least one Linux distibution; preferably you use
it on your own PC.
- are competent in /at least/ one scripting language (bash, Python, Perl, R, Java)
- have some interest in or experience with GIS, especially ARCGIS.
- are interested in large-scale computing
- have some personal experience in using large scale or complex research
computing - ie more than Excel.
- have a working knowledge of the GNU toolchain; you know the difference
between 'make' and 'configure'
- parallel programming techniques a plus.
- have some exerience with the more popular Web tools and platforms, such as
Apache, MySQL, PostgreSQL, PHP, Ruby, Javascript
- have a demonstrated ability to write concisely and clearly
- you are very much self-directed.
