OIT > Email > Spam > Entourage
Configuring Spam Scanning for
Microsoft Entourage X
Creating a Spam folder
- Click on the File menu at the top of the screen, then choose New > Subfolder (See Figure 1)

Figure 1
- Enter "Spam" and press Enter (See Figure 2)
Figure 2
- You should now have a Spam folder.
Please Note: Because SpamAssassin is unable to determine with 100% accuracy if a message
is unsolicited, you will want to check your Spam folder frequently for legitimate emails, as well as to delete the
actual spam
Creating a Spam filter
- Click on the Tools menu at the top of the screen, then choose Rules (See Figure 3)
Figure 3
- Click on the New button (See Figure 4)
Figure 4
- In the Rule name: box, type "Spam" as the name for the filter
- Click All Messages and select Specific Header at the bottom of the list
- Enter the text "X-UCIRVINE-Spamscore" after Specific Header
- Enter the text "sssss" after Contains. This will set
your Spamscore to 5. You can lower this score by typing in fewer "s".
- Click Change status and select Move message at the top of the list
- Click the box to the right of Move message and select Choose folder... at the bottom
- Select the "Spam" folder you created earlier.
- Make sure that all
options in this window are as shown below (See Figure 5). This will filter
email sent to your '@UCI.EDU' address.
Figure 5
- Repeat steps 2 - 10 to create an additional filter. Enter "X-NACS_ES-MailScanner-SpamScore" into
the Header: text box to create an additional filter. This will also filter
email sent to you directly at your OIT Mailbox account.
- Click OK and then close the Rules window.
Now you are setup for Spam filtering. If you have
any problems, please call the OIT Help Desk at 949-824-2222, Monday through
Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
