Configuring Spam Scanning for
Microsoft Entourage X

Creating a Spam folder

  1. Click on the File menu at the top of the screen, then choose New > Subfolder (See Figure 1)

  1. Enter "Spam" and press Enter (See Figure 2)

  1. You should now have a Spam folder.

Please Note: Because SpamAssassin is unable to determine with 100% accuracy if a message is unsolicited, you will want to check your Spam folder frequently for legitimate emails, as well as to delete the actual spam

Creating a Spam filter

  1. Click on the Tools menu at the top of the screen, then choose Rules (See Figure 3)

  1. Click on the New button (See Figure 4)

  1. In the Rule name: box, type "Spam" as the name for the filter
  2. Click All Messages and select Specific Header at the bottom of the list
  3. Enter the text "X-UCIRVINE-Spamscore" after Specific Header
  4. Enter the text "sssss" after Contains. This will set your Spamscore to 5. You can lower this score by typing in fewer "s".
  5. Click Change status and select Move message at the top of the list
  6. Click the box to the right of Move message and select Choose folder... at the bottom
  7. Select the "Spam" folder you created earlier.
  8. Make sure that all options in this window are as shown below (See Figure 5). This will filter email sent to your '@UCI.EDU' address.

  1. Repeat steps 2 - 10 to create an additional filter. Enter "X-NACS_ES-MailScanner-SpamScore" into the Header: text box to create an additional filter. This will also filter email sent to you directly at your OIT Mailbox account.
  2. Click OK and then close the Rules window.
