Configuring LDAP on Eudora for Macintosh

Summary: UCI has a directory server (LDAP) that can be used with Eudora to look up people at UCI. To set up Eudora to use the LDAP server, either use the form to have X-Eudora-Settings emailed to you or configure Eudora manually using the instructions below.

Note: UCI's LDAP service is only available on campus or through the VPN.

Option 1: X-Eudora-Settings Form

Type your email address to have the settings emailed to you. Then simply double-click on the settings provided and Eudora will be configured to use the LDAP server.

Option 2: Configure Eudora Manually

If you prefer to set up Eudora manually to use the LDAP server, follow the directions below.

  1. Under the Special menu, select Settings.

  2. Scroll down to Hosts from the icons in the left panel.

  3. In the Directory Services section, type or copy the following URL
    ldap://ldap.service.uci.edu/ou=University of California Irvine,o=University of California,c=US
    in the "Ph/LDAP Server" field.
    Note: Type it in exactly as shown or use Copy and Paste. If it appears to not paste, use the arrow keys to verify there is text in the field.

Using Directory Services (LDAP) with Eudora

  1. To use Directory Services (LDAP) within Eudora, select Directory Services under the Window menu.

  2. You will see the Directory Services window.

  3. Type the name of the person you are searching for in the "Enter query" field. Click the Lookup button or press the Enter key.

  4. Select the correct match and click the To:, Cc: or Bcc: buttons to send the person an email. You can also see other contact information including a phone number if available.
