Using Your Internet Service Provider's
(ISP) Outgoing Mail Server
Summary: If you send UCI email from home,
you may need to set your outgoing mail server (SMTP) to use their server.
Some service providers, like Cox, will not allow you to use another server.
If UCI's authenticated SMTP instructions do not work, try using the server
provided by your ISP.
Outgoing Mail Servers (SMTP)
If you use OIT email servers, you can
use smtp.uci.edu as your SMTP server. You will have set it
up to use "authenticated SMTP". We have instructions available.
Verify the settings for the software you use.
If you encounter problems sending email from a non-UCI location you may need
to change your SMTP server to reflect that of your ISP. Information and directions
to change your SMTP server to your ISP are available below.
