Calendar Service - Administrator Information: User Directory

This document is the content structure for UCI's Oracle Calendar-based electronic calendar and schedule service. This directory must be structured such that users may easily find and identify those with whom they wish to schedule, while also maintaining comparability with the campus phonebook information, as the latter is presented in the LDAP database. Addressing the latter, several fields will be populated directory out of LDAP, looking forward to LDAP password integration. For the former, OIT proposes some conventions for the names of participating schools, and their departments.

Naming Conventions:

The OU2 field will be populated with the name of the user's School or Department, albeit without the text "Department of", "School of" or "Office of," in the interest of brevity. This will allow for easy identification of users within the Oracle Calendar clients. As an example, Figure 1 shows a search result when the user's client has been set to display the OU2 field:

The OU3 field will be populated with the name of the user's department or unit. This will allow for searching and viewing of all users in a particular department. We ask that the School or Department supply a list of department names to be used in this field.

The Admin Domain field will be populated with a short, common abbreviation for the user's School or Department. This will allow for easy searching and viewing by School or Department. Figure 2 shows a search result when the user's client has been set to display the Admin Domain field.
