The Oracle Calendar directory must be strucured such that users may easily find and identify those with whom they wish to schedule, while also maintaining compatability with the campus phonebook information, as the latter is presented in the LDAP database. Addressing the latter, several fields will be populated directory out of LDAP, looking forward to LDAP password integration. For the former, OIT proposes some conventions for the names of participating schools, and their departments.
A resource is an inanimate object, such as a conference room or a piece of equipment, that has its own agenda. When creating an event in one's agenda, users can include resources in the same way that they include other users. Resources can also be used to create a calendar for tracking information needed throughout an organization, such as travel schedules or academic programs. Information for each resource is kept in the Oracle Calendar directory, just as for individual users. Given that resources are shared throughout an organization and across organizations, strict naming conventions are required to insure that it is easy for a user to work with the resources in his/her organization.
